At a depth of 10 - 20 meters/32 – 64 feet, the soil in these parts has a constant temperature of 8° to 12° C/46° F to 54° F. geoKOAX makes use of this renewable geothermal heat by means of a closed vertical geothermal pipe system made from polyethylene in the ground. Biological liquid circulates within the geoKOAX heat exchanger, absorbs geothermal heat and transfers this to the heat pump. The heat pump takes heat from the liquid, compresses it and serves to generate hot water, as well as heat or cool (reverse circuit) for buildings and open spaces.
Geothermal systems are a significantly more efficient and above all environmentally friendly alternative to conventional, electric air conditioning systems. The system makes use of the fact that, in summer, the temperature below ground is much cooler than the air temperature. The geothermal liquid transfers the lower temperature to the heating system, where it is released.
Buildings which are operated using fossil fuel energy are barely able to comply with the regulations of the latest German energy savings law (Energie-Sparverordnung (EnEV) 2014) or respective regulations in other countries. Geothermal systems, in contrast, comply even with the most demanding energy regulations as they provide 100% of heating requirements using only 20-25% of the energy input.
Geothermal energy is inexhaustible. Available directly on site, it is used without combustion processes and environmentally harmful transportation of energy sources. Thus every geothermal system protects the atmosphere from artificial emissions. Close-to-surface geothermal energy is not subject to political risks or availability. It is the way of the future in the fight against climate change.
The German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (Bundesamt für Ausfuhrkontrolle (BAFA) offers financial support for changes to a geothermal system. In your country other subsidies may exist. In many cases, the investment cost of a ground-connected heat pump is lower than the cost of a central heating system and a separate air-conditioning system.
